BloSSum & VANISH Gut Bacteria

You probably heard that eating lots of diverse plants & fermented foods feed ‘good’ bacteria in the gut, increasing microbiome diversity.

The gut microbiome, contrary to popular understanding, is not only your stomach, but bacteria in all mucus membranes, especially the intestine and colon.

The 'good' gut bacteria subsist on fiber from plants, which are not digested much by the stomach.

Mechanism of action for fibers going to gut (see image below)

If you eat a lot of simple sugars or simple carbs, due to their molecular composition, they will be quickly digested by stomach enzymes, and enter the blood circulation - to be used for energy production or stored as fat.

By eating highly processed, S.A.D. standard American diet, you don’t feed ‘good bacteria’ - called VANISH - (Volatile, Associated Negatively with Industrialized Societies of Humans) - it seems that largely plant fiber feeds VANISH.

Associated negatively, meaning, they decrease in industrialized societies relative to foraging, transition or agricultural societies.

Various societies vs. industrialization status & Bacteria associated w/ various societal stages via analyses of fecal matter

Various societies vs. industrialization status:
Bacteria associated w/ various societal stages via analyses of fecal matter

Associated with above, separates microbiome composition based on variability in that composition, vs other populations

You can see certain bacteria reducing (VANISH) and proliferating (BloSSum)

In short, BloSSum eat your gut lining - because they have nothing else to eat.

Most people in industrialized societies are highly deficient in plant fiber.

Diverse plant fibers feed VANISH.

When damaged, the gut lining is more permeable, & microbes get into the body cavity, causing an chronic and repeated immune system response.

One can imagine a fire alarm going off even though there is no fire. The noise of that alarm would be very disruptive.

So, feed the 'good' bacteria with plants & fermented foods! This changed my life and, for the psychs out there, my MOOD and EMOTIONAL STABILITY.

My Green Pill Podcast will cover a lot of this....

Coming up, I have an episode with Dr. Guy Lin, who talks about lifestyle medicine with his ENT patients (without them expecting it) and focuses on a whole food plant-based diet.

The Green Pill Podcast will be available on all major podcast platforms, including Apple PodcastsSpotify, and Google Podcasts. Stay tuned for upcoming episodes featuring expert guests who will share their insights and strategies to help listeners transform their lives, one green pill at a time.
