By Alex Shink 07 Jul, 2023
Without going into personal details, Kris was referred to me by his therapist after he beat prostate cancer and decided to better his health. He is a 47 y/o IT engineer who had been a runner in his youth, but had since deprioritized his health. Kris struggled and beat an addiction to alcohol, around largely the same time as achieving remission in his cancer for the 2nd time. You will see his data below, but generally, he was not exercising, had back pain, decent sleep, and largely ate takeout. Kris and I started working together in late Jan. This data is current as of May 7 2023. Below, you will see 5 charts: - Resting Heart Rate - Weight - VO2 Max - Time Asleep - Habit Adherence In each, I'll explain: - WIN - HOW - DEFINITION - WHY, and the - WEARABLE MECHANISM at work. Here we go!

You probably heard that eating lots of diverse plants & fermented foods feed ‘good’ bacteria in the gut, increasing microbiome diversity. The gut microbiome, contrary to popular understanding, is not only your stomach, but bacteria in all mucus membranes, especially the intestine and colon. The 'good' gut bacteria subsist on fiber from plants, which are not digested much by the stomach. Mechanism of action for fibers going to gut (see image below)

Welcome to the Green Pill Podcast , where we make health simple for everyday people. I'm your host, Alex Shinkarovsky , a health consultant and advocate for holistic well-being. Throughout my career, I have helped countless clients regain control of their habits and routines, guiding them towards becoming 1% better every day through wearable devices and accountability. Now, I'm excited to bring that expertise and passion to this podcast series. In the Green Pill Podcast, we aim to empower individuals to take control of their well-being, from individual actions to national policy. I believe many of the issues in our country stem from a lack of health. Our mission is to make health simple and clear for everyday people, bridging the gap between complex health information and actionable steps. We want to provide practical guidance and expert insights that can transform lives. To achieve this, we have invited a diverse range of guests to share their work and their "why" with us. Our lineup includes philanthropists, medical doctors, athletes, investors, PhDs, and entrepreneurs, each contributing their unique perspectives and expertise to our discussions. Together, we will explore the cutting-edge advancements in their respective fields and uncover what most people may not understand about specific areas on health. Throughout the podcast, we will delve into a wide range of topics. We will explore food and hunger policy, the concept of food-as-medicine, optimal nutrition, genetics, wearable devices, digital health, gut health and microbiome, immune health, forever chemicals and environmental toxins, skin care & endocrine disrupters, air quality, noise pollution, and much more. Each episode will uncover the latest research, debunk myths, and address common health concerns. Our goal is to provide both practical guidance and high-level thought leadership that can empower our listeners to make informed choices about their health and well-being. One of the key aspects we will focus on is the influence of individual actions on broader societal impact. Our guests will share the actions they have taken to influence their loved ones and communities to prioritize health and well-being. We will delve into the challenges they have faced and the strategies they have employed to bring about positive change. Together, we will explore the question: What actions can we each take to contribute to the health of ourselves, our families, and our communities? I firmly believe that small, consistent steps can make a significant impact. Whether it's simple lifestyle adjustments or advocating for policy changes, we will explore tangible ways to improve the well-being of not just ourselves but also those around us. The Green Pill Podcast will serve as a platform for sharing ideas, insights, and strategies, providing our listeners with practical tools they can implement in their own lives. As we embark on this transformative journey together, I invite you to join us on the Green Pill Podcast. Tune in on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud , YouTube , or your favorite podcast platform. Be prepared to be inspired, informed, and empowered by our expert guests and their valuable contributions. Remember, health is not a solitary endeavor. We are social animals, and it is a collective journey. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change in our own lives and the world around us. Let's simplify health, empower individuals, and make a positive impact on the well-being of ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities, one green pill at a time. The Green Pill Podcast is not just about disseminating information; it's about fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility for our well-being. In line with our mission, we have reached out to a number of esteemed guests to join us on the podcast. For example, we have episodes lined up with Dr. Adam Batineh, a wearable health-tech device expert, Kiva Dickison, Venture Capitalist and Founder of Selva Ventures, which invests in early-stage healthy food cos, Dr. Michael Broder, a media psychology professor at Villanova and former WWDB Radio Philly host, and Andres Preschel, an applied physiologist and top 5% health podcaster, among others. These experts will share their expertise on various topics, including food as medicine, philanthropy, emotional health, and more. One of our recent invitations was extended to a large philanthropic organization focused on food-as-medicine and food security. We are extremely passionate about the work they are doing, and we believe that their message deserves a wider audience. Our upcoming episode will delve into the importance of making health policy mainstream and simple for everyday people. We will explore topics such as food as medicine, philanthropy, and the impact of individual and collective responsibility on health decisions. We have also sent an invitation to a few health leaders in the personal development space. One is an influential figure who is known for speaking out about emotional health. We strongly believe in the power of sharing personal stories and leading by example. Our conversation will revolve around the challenges men face in discussing their feelings, the role of philanthropy in promoting emotional well-being, and the importance of setting an example for loved ones and communities. It is indeed challenging for individuals to take action and prioritize their health. Delayed gratification is not always rewarded, and the difficult part is often getting started. However, through the Green Pill Podcast, we aim to inspire and motivate our listeners to take those initial steps towards a healthier lifestyle. By providing practical guidance, debunking myths, and addressing common health concerns, we want to make health accessible and understandable for everyday people. Health is not an isolated pursuit; it is a collective journey. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change. We encourage our listeners to actively engage with us and share their stories, questions, and experiences. We want the Green Pill Podcast to be a platform for dialogue, support, and inspiration. So, join me on this exciting journey as we make health easy to understand. Remember, health is a gift we can give ourselves and our communities. Let's make health simple and clear for everyday people like you. Together, we can create a healthier and happier society.

As health pros, we, more than most, look around us and want to heal our parents, loved ones, spouses, and kids - instead of just practicing "live and let live". In fact, many say the reason they went into healthcare is because a loved one was ill.

Rejection sucks. So, that’s why Tinder, OK Cupid, Hinge & matchmakers have businesses. Once the connection is facilitated, the actual date or meeting is much easier. And in 10 years, I have set up hundreds of meetings for old my corp wellness biz, YogaBreak, my health coaching biz, AlexLovesHealth , and the various and sundry finance companies I’ve supported ( my LinkedIn ). As you build whatever you’re building, whether career, biz, confidence or dating life, think about it this way: My biggest tip: don’t see yourself, or your offer, as personal. See it as a role you are playing. Because life’s a stage…

What is inflammation? How does it affect my body, and what can I do about it? Inflammation comes from latin Inflammare: “To set on fire” Inflammation is the body’s normal physiological attempt to defend itself against foreign invasions, and repair it from injury. Imagine the immune system in the body as a hotel. The hotel has a security guard & a manager. The security guard constantly checks for *strangers*: e.g., a potentially threatening molecule (in microbes & food)… …if strangers come, the guard sends a *danger* signal out to the hotel manager…(defense) And the hotel manager mounts an appropriate response… Sometimes, that’s being tolerant and doing nothing. (Tolerance) After all, strangers are allowed in hotels. Sometimes, if it is a robber, the manager calls the police. (Defense) If the hotel gets robbed, the police come, defend the hotel, and recompense the hotel for the damage caused by the robber. (Repair) The problem is when the security guard thinks everyone is a threat, or when the manager calls the police every day. Then, the hotel would be a very stressful place to work, and have a lot of problems for guests. This is what happens when the body is under *chronic inflammation*. Chronic inflammation essentially takes what is an acute response (“there’s a robber”)… …and repeats it daily. MOST CHRONIC DISEASES HAVE BEEN LINKED TO CHRONIC INFLAMMATION - Skin: Eczema - Rheumatological: Autoimmune disorders (i.e., Lupus, - Gastroenterological: - Cardiovascular: - Neurodegenerative: Alzheimer’s Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) - Cancer - Endocrine: diabetes - Psychiatric: schizophrenia, depression

6 of 10 Americans have one chronic disease. 4 of 10 have 2+ ( CDC ) So, it falls on our generations to be caregivers, ultimately. If we can 'green pill'. or help our families get healthier, that caregiving burden is reduced. Or, at least, the person & the prospective caregiver get a sense of control & taking action, not just suffering without means to reduce the strife. How I helped my grandmother: Got her a home health aide Spent actual time at her appointments Called her doctors repeatedly Got her an iPad My mom passed in '09, and my grandma did not have her support. She was a VERY Independent Person but ultimately, diabetes, heart disease, glaucoma & dementia would fell even the strongest tree. We supported her by all of the bullet points above, and most of all, calling and spending time doing so. And visiting monthly. I am very interested in this subject of caring for our loved ones, and will be writing more. Stay tuned or register for the Green Pill newsletter below, if you haven't already.

I think most of us are zombies to our email, social media or text. But if you're reading this, you likely were born before 2000, and grew-up in an analog world. I certainly did and, as a result, have a lot of shame when I use my device as a pacifier. Three apps that help a lot one-sec app - requires a deep breath before opening email, Instagram, etc. Freedom.to - blocks certain apps or sites from being opened Screen Time - on iPhone, measures your usage and sets a limit, which you can click through Today, I'll focus on one-sec. First, a quick take on internet addiction. I recently read half of Overcoming Internet Addiction for Dummies , written by one of the pioneers in the field. I thought those books were actually written by Dummies, who else? I digress...
