Life In Balance - Julie Williams

1. What's your practice focus and who are your typical patients?

We focus on the experiences of emotions. We treat anxiety, depression, and trauma related symptoms. We are the emotion regulation specialists that uses evidenced based interventions to balance life.

2. Tell us about yourself.

I’ve always loved to help people.

As a kid, I loved teamwork.

I was always very curious and wanted to support my friends and loved ones in accomplishing things they thought they couldn’t achieve.

It brought me simple joy.

When I moved on in life, and my story moved to adulthood, life started becoming complicated.

And this is where my path to my life vision unfolded.

I always wanted to be a therapist and knew I was on the path I had envisioned.

I attended Old Dominion University in Virginia and played on an NCAA Division One field hockey team. I got my master’s in counseling psychology in 2005 from Immaculata University in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

Along the way, I had to balance many new areas: being a full-time therapist, wife, mother of two, mother to our dog children, and financial manager.

I used various skills I teach in my own life. I would never ask someone to do something I couldn’t see myself doing.

Eventually, I became a licensed professional counselor trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.

I worked with someone who experienced anxiety that impacted their quality of life. They had a constant fear of throwing up. We worked to establish an anxiety management tool kit and they now can leave their house and work through these fears. They got their freedom back from anxiety.

4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?

The most difficult part was being alone in the beginning. Coming from team delivered care this was an adjustment. I quickly found ways to be connected with others in my field.

5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\

1. Pace yourself and listen to your intuition.
2. Understand there is a dip phenomenon with referrals every so often-this is normal!

3. Mindset is very important. You achieve what you put your mind too.

6. Where can people find you?
